The 2017 NCM Bash 04/26/17 |
This Bash was actually more fun than most simply because our trusty group of CCA members went early on Tuesday, staying at the Drury, then the next morning were treated to a full day of high speed touring on the NCM Motorsports track.
We literally ran continuously over and over getting better acquainted with the turns each time we went. Even drivers new to this were given special attention so they were able to better enjoy the thrill of this awesome track! Our own Ken Okeson enjoyed the thrill of every new lap and soaked up the experience and the knowledge.
Each time we were led by an instructor as the lead car for about 4-5 laps. And if you timed it right you could be immediately behind the lead car and put on a bit more speed. These laps helped to train all of us on the best "line" through the turns making sure to hit the late apex blue line on the red and white "turtles" to optimize each turn.
Then the following day to the Bash with all the chief GM Corvette engineers readily available to answer any question about any current or past Vette. I personally learned many new things about mine.
One special seminar was given by Master Mechanic, Paul Koener. A couple words of wisdom; ALWAYS get the printout from any wheel alignment to be sure ALL tires are in alignment especially comparing fronts to rears! And second to use a special moisture dipstick meter to tell when to replace brake, transmission and differential fluids.
Then Tadge Juechter with his announcements of the new 2018 Corvettes! Tadge is a really great guy! He answered many questions from the audience including seat adjustment problems for the really tall and the really petite drivers and passengers like our Donna Huddle and my wife Pat Dugach. He actually came out to the parking lot to see the problem first hand!
Next the Corvette Racing team of Pratt, Miller, Fehan, and even Ron Fellows was there with one of the actual racing cars! They signed many autographs like Mike McGimpsey's Spring Mountain jacket! Really great people!
Then to conclude some of us attended the Kentucky Autocross along with many of our southern friends.
It was another fun and successful NCM Bash! Many thanks to Wendell Stroud and the NCM staff!
(P.S. Check back in a week for a few videos from the track!)
