EOR AutoX at Lakeland 5/23 & 5/24 2014 |
This event had many firsts. It was our first Autocross at Lakeland this year, our first self timed event, and our first training event for all newbies that had been nervous about trying autocross for the first time.
Thanks to Ted Vannelli, we had about 20 new racers that got their feet wet with all the aspects of how to enter and actually race. We had some rising stars like Denise Kaehler that got the bug and really improved in her times! We have made many positive changes and upgrades to the timing system and it was all worth it because it actually went quite well.
We even had newbies run the race and we all came together to make it a real success! The computer and timing equipment worked flawlessly thanks to many donated hours, new hardware, cabling, and technology improvements by Mike Bracanovic and yours truly, Fred Dugach. Everything has been documented which should contribute to less frustrations and a better upcoming season.
In addition to all of the other firsts, on the second day I decided to try out a couple of my new toys, a Sony HD action cam and a DJI Phantom Quadcopter that provided aerial views. I highly recommend these fun toys! Please check out the videos below! Hope they provide some different perspective for these two fun filled days!
And if you were ever considering autocrossing, please don't hesitate to ask any of the newbies especially Denise!
Many thanks to all of the people that helped to make this a successfull event especially Rick and Theresa Wiles, and all the workers!
